What you have a degree in doesn’t seem to matter much anymore, more than you have a degree in something and can show that you put in the commitment to get through school. You would have a huge advantage over a lot of the candidates simply because you’re coming from a related field.

    Good luck!

Firstly, there’s one illusion we must sort out, SOCO (Scene Of Crime Officers AKA CSI – CSI Is the American version) are NOT police officers they are Police Staff. That means they do not have the right to arrest or even the right to search some one. Secondly, you can do both but it would be difficult, you would have to apply to be a SOCO and then become a special constable ( An officer that does not get paid for his/her duties) that is the only way that you would be able to become a uniformed officer and a SOCO However, if you would only like to be a uniformed officer you could rank up quickly due to your degree in Crime Scene and Forensic Science. Please note: A special constable has all the rights as a normal PC but doe not get paid, and only has to work 18 hours a month. Also, this is for what its like in certain police services that i shall not name for legal reasons. So not all police services will allow this.
    Hope this helps

If a police department requires you to have a degree, first of all that department is crazy and secondly it doesn’t matter what the degree is in. That’s because there is not a college in the world that teaches policing. Criminal justice is NOT how to be a police officer. It IS the history of policing, the constitution, trial law and things like that. They will not teach you in any way, what it is to be a patrolman. When you’re on patrol, you absolutely need to know two things. How to shoot, and how to fight. Period. Those are the skills that will bring you home ALIVE everyday. Which by the way, is the goal of every police officer. Ask any one of them in your neighborhood. They’ll tell you. The number one job of a police officer, GO HOME IN ONE PEICE.
